► How to Raise Funds
There are a number of ways that society committees can raise funds for activities, equipment and events.
Membership
The majority of societies are charging for membership, and all of this money goes straight into your society account. Therefore it's a great way to raise funds whilst also building a committed society membership.
The Society Funds is a pot of money that comes from sponsership from external companies or fundraising instigated by your Vice President Societies and ID along with the Societies Executive Committee.
To apply for money from this pot you will need to submit a request form, and then present your proposal at Societies Standing, explaining what the money will go towards.
The maximum amount you can apply for depends on the limits set by Society Standing at the start of the year. The Societies Executive meets in between Societies Standing meetings to discuss applications to the Society Funds. Applications up to a certain amount can be voted by the Societies Executive only, but applications over that amount, and up to the maximum amount you can apply for, need to be voted on by the Societies Standing committee. Once the funds have been emptied then no more applications can be made.
Sponsorship
If your society is thinking about trying to get sponsorship from external companies, it is important that any agreements are checked by the Students' Union, so that we can ensure your society is getting the best deal that you possibly can and also just to check all the legal things!
Fundraising Ideas
If you have any other ideas for raising money whether it be putting on events or arranging activites e-mail your Vice President Societies on ussu.societies@surrey.ac.uk so that we can give you as much help and support where we can.
