► Union Support

What is Union Support?

The Union Support Office is the name of a service, which the Students' Union provides for all students at Surrey University.
University is a fantastic opportunity for learning, meeting new people, and having some great experiences. But along with so many new opportunities, new pressures can come too. Union Support is here to offer impartial and confidential support and advice to all students.
Whether you need advice on academic issues, want to find out how to make a complaint or need someone to talk to in confidence about any welfare issue, Union Support can help.
We are open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, most weeks of the year. Our offices are located in Union House, opposite Stag Hill Court.

What issues can they help with?

In brief, we can help you with any concerns that you may have, whether or not this is in person or by acting as a sign posting service, directing you to other relevant individual's/organisations. We can support you when approaching the University, by helping writing statements, attending meetings with you as a representative and chasing up action. Basically if you have any problem however big or small, if we can't help, we'll know someone who can!

Union Support and The University

We are completely independent from the University. The Sabbaticals at the Students' Union are the only people who can represent you collectively. The University Care Services specialise in different areas that we do not: Financial advice/ assistance (SAIS), Counselling service, careers advice … however, if you are at all unsure of exactly what services we have on campus or who it is most appropriate for you to see, we can easily advise you.
The Union Support Office is proud of the strong relationship it keeps with the University Care Services Departments and the Dean of Student’s Office. We act as a referral and signposting service, directing students to the right care department for their needs, and we support students with academic appeals or complaints until they are ready to be submitted to the Dean of Students’ office where final decisions are made.

 Do I need an appointment?

You do not need to set up a time with us, just drop into the office – Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. Alternatively, contact us by phone or email. If we feel we need a further meeting with you, we will arrange for you to sit down with us at another time.
