► Union Executive

What do they really do?

The main role of a part time member of the Exec is to be the sabbaticals’ eyes and ears, finding out student issues and feeding them to the committee, which meets once a week. The part-time Executive are all students who are taking a specific interest in a particular issue or section of the student population. Most of all, they are part of a team of representatives and they are there to make sure the Union keeps a high profile around the campus, communicates properly with students and takes everyone’s interests into account.

The Union Executive Committee shall be responsible for overseeing the running of the Union with the support of the Management Group in accordance with decisions of Student Assembly and its superior bodies, Board of Trustees, the terms of the Constitution, and relevant legislations.

So, what's it really like to be on the Exec?

Being elected to the Exec means being part of a team of individuals who share student feedback and make things happen. It’s great experience of managing projects, working with others, and an opportunity to be involved in your Union, starting at the top! An Exec position is what you make of it, and if you’re the sort of person who thrives on working with and influencing others, and you love sparking off debate and getting results, this could be exactly the right responsibility to take on for a year. You never know where this sort of experience could lead – many part-time Executive members have gone on to be full time sabbaticals in the following year.

How do I get on to the Exec?

Watch out for the Elections next Autumn!
