President: Chelsea Lewin
Chelsea is the President which is a signatory role, as well as this, she is the head of the competitions zone of the Law Society. Chelsea is from the South East and is a second year student studying straight law with a placement year. Chelsea is a friendly and outgoing individual who is always open to new things. Her hobbies include going to the gym, watching films and spending time with family and friends. Her favourite module was Tort Law II and after graduating, Chelsea aspires to become a barrister.
Vice-President: Ellis McPhee
Ellis is the vice-president of the law society, this is a signatory role, he is also the head of the social and support zone. Ellis is a second year straight law student from Devon. Ellis is a very friendly, outgoing and hardworking individual who is especially friends and family orientated and can’t wait to get started this year! His hobbies include playing and watching sport (mainly football), going to the gym, watching TV series and spending time with friends and family. Ellis enjoys studying law, his favourite module being criminal law II, and aspires to become a barrister.
Treasurer: Ban Lahham
Ban is the treasurer of the law society, this is a signatory position. Ban is a third year student studying straight law. She was born in Jordan, raised in Dubai and is all about what’s yet to come. Some of Ban’s hobbies include reading, writing and watching TV. Her favourite module was domestic violence.
Social Secretary: Robyn Whitmore
Robyn is the social secretary, this falls under the social and support zone. Robyn is a second year straight law student from the South West who started studying law due to the way it has affected her already, this gave Robyn the want to understand the way it functions and applies in society. She enjoys playing sport in her free time (mainly cricket), working and socialising and trying to mix the three together where she can! Robyn favourite modules so far has been Contract Law.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer: Isha Amir
Isha is the EDI officer, this falls within the social and support zone. Isha is a third year student studying straight law. She enjoys reading, shopping and socialising with friends. Recently, Isha has also started volunteering which she thoroughly enjoys. Isha enjoys studying law and hopes to pursue a career as a barrister (although is unsure which type yet!), her favourite modules so far have been criminal law and equity.
Support and Wellbeing Officer: Oriana Savvidi
Oriana is our support and wellbeing officer, this falls under the social and support zone. Oriana is a third year law student studying straight law from Cyprus, she also undertook a placement year at the National Centre for Domestic Violence in 2020/2021. Oriana was also the Mock Trial Officer for the Law Society from 2020/2021 in which she arranged the biggest mock trial competition across England and Wales that year: The National Mock Trial Competition. Oriana’s hobbies include reading books, watching crime documentaries and going on road trips around her country. Her favourite module so far has been Criminal law, she is looking forward to learning the law of evidence and aspires to become a criminal barrister.
Law Careers Officer: Sarah Ridgway
Sarah is the law careers officer for the law society, this falls within our professional development zone. Sarah is a third year straight law student from Ireland. Sarah grew up in Luxembourg and is bilingual in English and French, attending an internal school prior to coming to Surrey to study. Sarah also undertook a placement year in 2020/2021 in which she interned at three different firms which was a wonderful experience – she is however looking forward to getting back to life at Surrey. Sarah hobbies include running with her goal being to run a full marathon. She also enjoys cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Sarahs module so far has been environmental law because they had really interesting discussions and debates on current matters.
Mooting Officer: Jessica Mathew
Jessica is this years mooting officer, this position falls within the competitions zone of the law society. Jessica is a second year student studying law with international relations. Jessica is an art enthusiast who’s very fond of animals. She is a supporter of the #adoptdontshop campaign. Jessica’s hobbies include hiking, travelling and chilling with her dog Chico, her favourite module was Contract Law II.
Negotiations Officer: Jess Frith
Jess is the negotiations officer for the coming year, this falls within the competitions zone of the society. Jess is a second year student studying straight law. She is currently volunteering with the Citizens Advice Bureau alongside her studies. In her free time she enjoys playing the guitar, music, photography, travelling and hanging out with friends. Jessica is keeping her career pathways open until she finds something she is truly passionate about, she does however know that she wants to positively impact peoples lives. Her favourite module so far has been contract law II.
Client-Interviewing officer: Antonieta Alvarez
Antonieta is the client-interviewing officer, this falls within the competitions zone of the law society. Antonieta is a second year student studying straight law, she is a sociable and enthusiastic individual with a soft spot for animals. Antonieta likes to push herself towards new goals and help others however she can. Her hobbies include playing rugby, skating and watching as many crime shows as possible. Her favourite module so far has been Criminal Law.
Commercial Awareness Officer: Emily Neate
Emily is the commercial awareness officer for this year, this falls within the competitions zone of the law society. Emily is a third year student studying Law with Criminology. Emily’s hobbies include going to the gym and playing netball. After graduating Emily aspired to become a commercial solicitor in the city.
