Community Zone Updates
The Community Zone is here for bringing students together and making a home away from home!
Here's a selection of what your elected Community Zone Officers have been up to recently!
From
February 2020:
- Your
Union Campaign – we gave out vouchers in
Rubix which entitled students to a free drink, free cloakroom, queue jump and other perks.
- Housing
Fair organised by USL and was held in Rubix. Community zone we had a stand
- Steve the Stag participated in the Guildford Pancake
Races
- VP Community led a sanitary towel workshop for Sustainabilty Day
- Volunteering week offered opportunties to volunteer on campus and in the community and also do disucss volunteering opportunties with HALOW
Since
lockdown began we have been focusing on online engagement and lifting community spirit:
- Virtual
flirt! – stage crew and stag TV have been streaming club nights live from Rubix with resident DJ Karl Thomas and various guest DJs
- Rubix online has also participated in James
Hype Streaming World Tour along with 17 venues
worldwide and a number of other streaming events.
- Hari’s
Challenge continues to run online every Tuesday
- Collaborating with the activity zone we we prodiced an Activity
Calendar for April and a May
- Zone member Omar Al Masri
made a special video message sending support to final years
- Zone member Sam Awonuga ran a Poetry Campaign with LitSoc and the English Literature
department
- A Virtual
Book Club was set up
- We created postcards for students to put through neighbours doors offering help during the pandemic
- Union and Colours Ball were streamed online from Rubix
- RAG 2.0 Challenge - challenge yourself and raise money for Oakleaf and Cystic Fibrosis Trust
