Hi, I'm Samuel! I'm a second-year Engineering Student student from London. I am currently one of the Community Zone executive officers. My aim this year will be to help the students be more informed about private renting and finance planning, as well as improving the Surrey Volunteering experience.
New Accommodation Package
Create a package to help with accommodation for first years and what to expect in 2nd year. This package will explain procedures, deposit, bills and tips for securing a house early and what options are available. The packs would also include advice in alliance with the Citizens' Advice Bureau to safeguard students against rogue landlords.
Take Surrey Global
With "community," we often think of our local community, but why not our global community!
I am proposing a full-on global engagement scheme where students are able to travel around the world in groups to volunteer with separate societies and countries.
The University and SU would arrange fun volunteering opportunities abroad. Students will be awarded with a Surrey Global Engagement Prize.
Improve Student Engagement
Introduce a Charity Week: this week would be a fun way of fundraising, involving a University-wide BBQ as well as charity sports events such as athletics, football etc. Finally, the week will end with a Rubix sponsored charity event.
Set a goal for each course to be partnered with a related charity where students are made aware of volunteering opportunities; for example, Civil Engineering could be partnered with The Construction Industry Charity.
