Varsity! – 23rd march 2022

Team Surrey is back
and so is Varsity!

After a 3 year wait due to the pandemic… Varsity returns! Varsity is our annual head-to-head sporting event epic, against our rivals; Royal Holloway. With 34 club & society events across the day and numerous fan zones, music and bars it is a truly spectacular annual event… it’s not one to miss!

Dust off your blue varsity t-shirts (on sale soon!) and don your blue and gold face paint, as we go to war once again. We will be travelling away to Royal Holloway, together as a Team Surrey family once more, to bring home our Varsity trophy. Each competition will give Varsity Points to the winning team; the University with the most Varsity Points wins Varsity, and takes the trophy!

Afterwards, we return to Guildford and party the night away, back in Rubix for our massive Varsity Afterparty!

The blue and gold family are all back again, in Surrey. Every University of Surrey student is a member of the Students’ Union and together, we are all Team Surrey!

How can I get a ticket, and what does it get me?

Unfortunately, Royal Holloway has a capped ticket allowance, which means the tickets are currently only on sale to members of the clubs/societies partaking in Varsity. The ticket, which is on sale at £10, gets you a Varsity T-Shirt plus your coach travel to-and-from Royal Holloway. If you purchase a ticket, you MUST pop by the Students’ Union Activities Office and collect your Varsity T-Shirt and wristband.

Your Varsity ticket does NOT include entry to Rubix for the famous Varsity Citrus- these tickets are sold separately on Tixtu, on Monday 21st at 8am! Beware, these tickets can sell out pretty quickly…

If I can’t go to Varsity, can I still get a Varsity T-Shirt?

Yes, you can! If you haven’t got a Varsity ticket, you can purchase Varsity t-shirts from Appleseed.

How will the day work?

The Activity Zone has worked meticulously with Lucy Evans (your University Chief Student Officer) to try establish a day off Varsity. The result is that the large majority of students will have a morning of online teaching on the 23rd of March. This will allow you to enjoy your day at Varsity, without having to choose between your education, or representing your University! This will then hopefully lead to a full day-off for Varsity in 2022-23, when Surrey is the host at Surrey Sports Park.

Coaches will leave from Surrey Sports Park in the morning on the 23rd, and you’ll arrive at Royal Holloway for the first fixtures of the day! More information will be coming out about this soon.

Whether you’re playing sport for your club or society, or a part of our incredible fanbase cheering our teams on… there’s plenty to do! There will be fanzones where you can partake in fan activities which gain us extra Varsity points, grab a pint, or some food from a selection of vendors.

Varsity will end with a 4 game extravaganza: Men’s Basketball (and Cheerleading), Netball, Women’s Lacrosse and Men’s Football. After the Men’s Football, the Varsity Points will be tallied up and the trophy will be presented to the winning University.

Surrey will then immediately return via coach back to Guildford, in time for you to pre-drink and then celebrate the night away in a sold out Rubix, for your Varsity Citrus Afterparty!

What is the schedule for Varsity?

All fixtures are at Royal Holloway, unless otherwise stated.
