Referendum 2022

Currently, your elected Officers sit on ‘Zone Committees’ and also attend Exec meetings, where some of them have voting powers. Your team want to enhance the current Zone meetings with open, widely-advertised meetings once a month for each Zone (VoiceSupportCommunity, and Activity). And, at least once per semester, a large open meeting will be held for all students where all Officers will give updates and discuss/vote on the big issues affecting students at Surrey.

The referendum will decide whether the Union should proceed with these changes to student-facing committees.

Where Can I Find Out More?

You can read the proposal in full here, or ask any questions by contacting the team on surreydecides@surrey.ac.uk

How does a referendum work?

A referendum is a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question decided by all members of the Students’ Union – that’s almost all students studying at Surrey.

The referendum question will be on the Surrey Decides online voting site – and voting will be open during Surrey Decides voting, at the end of February.

What will the referendum question be?

‘Do you agree with changing the Union’s student committee structure?’

How can I get involved?

If you are interested in campaigning for yes or no in this referendum please contact surreydecides@surrey.ac.uk before 5pm on the 16th of February 2022.
